City corporation garbage truck kills woman in Jatrabari

A woman died after a city corporation garbage truck ran her over in Dhaka's Jatrabari early on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Nazma Begum, 46. She came to Dhaka from Bhola earlier the same day for medical treatment.

Nazma Begum's son Momin said he and his mother came to Dhaka's Sadarghat on Saturday. They took a rickshaw and were on their way to a relative's home at Shonir Akhra.

In front of Jatrabari's Bhanga Press area, the rickshaw collided with the cover of a manhole. Nazma Begum fell off the rickshaw as a result of the collision, when a city corporation garbage truck ran her over.

She was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared her dead.

Confirming the incident, Inspector Bachchu Miah, in charge of the DMCH police outpost, said her body was kept in the morgue for autopsy. The incident was reported to the concerned police station.
