PM to open 3rd terminal of Shahjalal Int'l Airport on October 7

The third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is scheduled to be publicly opened by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on October 7.

The third terminal's development is currently roughly 82 percent complete, according to Air Vice Marshal M. Mafidur Rahman, the CAAB's chairman.

At a news conference held here on Tuesday, he estimated that all passengers would be able to use the terminal by the end of 2024.

According to information from the CAAB, 12 of the 26 boarding bridges will be in service on October 7 for the inauguration.

Once fully operational, the new terminal will be able to hold more than 12 million passengers annually, according to the statement.

The development of the terminal, which will improve the airport's capacity to handle both passengers and cargo, was formally opened on December 30, 2019, by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Implementing the project will cost Tk 21,300 crore. Bangladesh would contribute Tk 5,000 crore while the rest of the money will be covered by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Currently, the takeoff and landing capacity of HSIA's Terminals 1 and 2 is 120–130 aircrafts from 33 carriers.

A daily average of 30,000 to 35,000 passengers pass through the two terminals. 

Twelve million extra passengers will be able to be served after the third terminal opens.
