2 aircraft suffer bird strikes at Dhaka airport

Bird strikes have damaged two aircraft while taking off at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday.

Confirming the incidents, Managing Director (CEO) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Shafiul Azim said the flights were cancelled and the passengers were dropped on the taxiway.

However, in either situation, no casualties were reported.  

In the first incident, a bird strike forced the pilot of Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft BG 737 to abort takeoff for Bangkok after one of the tires ruptured.

The plane's passengers were lifted in the taxiway.

Later, the passengers were flown to Bangkok on another Biman aircraft.

Biman engineers are presently inspecting the aircraft to assess the damage.

The second incident involved a Fly Dubai plane that was unable to take off when a bird crashed into its left engine and broke three of its propeller blades. 

As the plane had to be stopped during the final phase of takeoff, two wheels also melted.
