Car runs over child in Jatrabari

A 23-month-old child died on Saturday after a car ran her over in the capital's Jatrabari area.

The child was identified as Mariam. The incidents happened in the Kajirgao area of Jatrabari at around 5:30pm.

Laki Begum, the child's grandmother, said they hail from Bhangachari village of Lalmonirhat sadar upazila. Mariam was the only child of Lavlu Miah, who works in a carton factory, and Riba Aktar, an RMG worker. They live in a rented house in Kajirgao.

Both parents were at work when the incident happened, the grandmother said. She added, "Mariam was playing in the road in front of the house by herself that afternoon. Suddenly we heard a scream and found her in a bloody state.

Only autorickshaws and easy bikes use that road. We don't know what kind of car ran Mariam over. But some people say a truck passed by."

Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police outpost assistant in charge ASI Md Masud said, the child was brought to the hospital in the evening, when the duty doctor declared her dead.
