Blast from gas leak burns 5 of a family in Jurain

Five of a family sustained burn injuries after a gas leakage caused an explosion in the capital's Jurain area early on Monday.

The injured were identified as Md Atahar, 35, his wife Mukta Khatun, 30, their daughter Afsana, 5, Mukta's father Altaf Shikdar, 72, and her mother Mst Marzina Begum, 50. They live in Mannan Master House of Sardar Bazar Salimullah road of Jurain.

Inspector Bachchu Miah, in charge of the DMCH police outpost, confirmed the matter.

The blast occurred at around 2am on Monday, after which the injured were admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS) in Dhaka at around 3am.

The hospital's resident doctor Toriqul Islam said, "Atahar sustained 50 per cent, Mukta 45 per cent, and Afsana 25 per cent burn on their body."

Meanwhile, Marzina sustained 5 per cent and Altaf 2 per cent burns. They are both kept in observation for now, the doctor said.
