Convicted war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayeedi

Convicted war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayeedi has died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Monday night. He was 83.

He breathed his last at 8:40pm, BSMMU Director Brigadier General Dr. Md Rezaur Rahman told The Daily Samakal.

On Sunday afternoon, Sayeedi was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University as he felt chest pain.

International Crimes Tribunal sentenced Islamist leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi to death for crimes committed during the Independence War of Bangladesh in 1971.

Sayeedi, the nayeb-e-ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, was found guilty of mass murder, rape and other charges during the 1971 war.

He had been serving a jail term until death for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
