Keraniganj chemical warehouse fire kills 4

A chemical warehouse in the Godarbagh area of Dhaka's Keraniganj caught fire early on Tuesday. Four people died and several were injured in the incident.

The deceased were identified as Jesmin Ratri, 30, her daughter Isa Aktar, 13, Mina Aktar, 24, and her daughter Taiyeba, 2.

According to the locals, the fire broke out at a warehouse of a chemical factory at around 4am on Tuesday. The cause of the fire could not be known immediately.

Mehedi Hasan, who lives in the neighbourhood, said the locals informed the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) right after they noticed the fire.

Confirming the matter, Dhaka FSCD Deputy Assistant AGM Shamsuzzaman said six units worked to bring the fire under control. Among them, two were from Keraniganj, two from Sadarghat, and two from Dhaka headquarter.

"As the fire broke out in a chemical warehouse, it was difficult to douse it. It took 2.5 hours to douse the fire," he said.

Keraniganj Police Station Officer in Charge Mamunur Rashid said, "We rushed to the spot after receiving news that a chemical warehouse caught fire. Four people including children died in this incident. Some people were admitted to a hospital."
