25 govt, pvt institution websites hacked

Several private and government institutions of Bangladesh suffered cyber-attacks as well as data leaks recently, local media reports.

Among the institutions hit by such attacks include the Corporation of Bangladesh and the Directorate General of Health Services.

Meanwhile, hackers also claimed to have hit the central bank and stolen a significant amount of data from its records. The land ministry's land tax portal was another such website that the hackers claimed to have hit.

Several other organisations faced low-level attacks, such as police units, ticketing websites, and bank websites.

Earlier this month, the Bangladesh Government's Computer Incident Response Team (BGD e-GOV CIRT) issued a press release which said the country was facing an imminent cyber-attack on August 15. A declaration made by religious and ideologically motivated underground hacker groups prompted the press release. The hacker groups claimed to be 'hacktivist' organisations.
