Man detained after explosion at Sylhet BNP procession

As part of their one-point simultaneous movement, BNP's Sylhet City unit brought out a procession with black flags from the city's Registry ground on Saturday. However, an explosion occurred during the meeting, alarming the leaders and activists of the party. Police detained a man in this connection.

The explosion was heard when the procession reached the Court Point area. It caused panic and disorder. BNP leaders and activists caught a man named Abdul Kadir Zilani, claiming that he wanted to set off 'cocktails' to disrupt the meeting. He was handed over to the police.

Confirming the matter, Sylhet Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner Azbahar Ali Sheikh said, "BNP leaders and activists have handed over a man named Abdul Kadir Zilani, along with crude bombs, to the police. He is being interrogated. He hails from Dirai in Sunamganj."
