Several students of 7 DU-affiliated colleges fall ill at Nilkhet

Several students of seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) became ill after they blocked the capital's Nilkhet intersection on Sunday, aiming to press home their one-point demand.

According to the students, the ones who fell ill 'took poison' to protest against DU's 'farce.' The ill students were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

A few hundred students took up a position at around noon. They want a relaxation of the GPA or CGPA conditions by allowing up to three makeup examinations and promotion to the next semester.

Several attempts were made to contact the Eden Mohila College principal and coordinator of the seven colleges Supriya Bhattacharjee over the phone, but she was unavailable.

On February 16, 2017, the seven renowned government colleges in the capital were affiliated with Dhaka University following the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the education ministry.

The affiliated colleges are Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Govt Women College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College.
