Fakhrul, Rizvi, 6 others indicted in vandalism case

A Dhaka court has framed charges against BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, and six others in a vandalism case filed against them in 2012.

Jamaat-e Islami leader Dr Muhammad Shafiqul Islam Masud, Saiful Alam Nirob, Moazzem Hossain Babu, Azizul Bari Helal, Kazi Rezaul Haque Babu and Khandaker Enamul Haque Enam are the other accused in the case.

After scrapping a dismissal plea from the defence on Sunday afternoon, Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain framed charges against the eight.

September 20 has been set for the next hearing in the case. 

On December 9, 2012, according to the case statement, some 200-250 BNP, Jamaat activists led by Fakhrul and Rizvi blocked a part of the city's Mintu Road under Paltan Model Thana. The BNP-Jamaat men went on ransacking a garbage picking truck of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and hurled bombs targeting it.

Following the incident, DSCC truck Md Aynal filed a case with Paltan Model Thana.

DB Police Sub-Inspector Anwar Hossain Khan, also the investigating officer of the case, pressed charge sheet against them on October 23, 2017.
