DU student dies after falling off building

A DU student has died after falling from the Bijoy Ekattor Hall. The incident happened early on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Kazi Firoz. He was a resident of the Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall.

According to eyewitnesses, Kazi Feroz jumped from the 6/7th floor of Jamuna block of the Bijoy Ekattor Hall at around 1am on Wednesday.

"An injured DU student was brought to the hospital and the duty doctor declared him dead," said Md Bacchu Mia, in charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost.

Wahidul Alam, a resident of the Bijoy Ekattor Hall who witnessed the incident, said, "I was talking on the phone in front of the hall at around 12:50am. Suddenly I heard a scream and looked at the block's lift when I spotted something falling. Then I heard a loud noise.

"I guessed that someone fell or jumped. I rushed there immediately. Some people also came there from the reading room."

The eyewitness said Kazi Firoz was senseless when people found him. He started breathing after other students tried to bring him back to consciousness. He was then brought to the DMCH.

Regarding the incident, Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall Provost Prof Md Billa Hossain said, "Based on the evidence we have till now, this was a suicide."
