Uranium fuel on way to Rooppur

The first consignment of 'Nuclear Fuel' or Uranium of the first unit of Rooppur Nuclear Power Project is being taken from Dhaka to Ishwardi, the project area in Pabna.

The uranium is being transported by road through special security measures. The vehicles carrying uranium left Gazipur at around 7am on Friday.

The consignment of uranium arrived in Dhaka from Russia on Thursday afternoon through a special air cargo.

Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom Aleksey Likhachev is set to hand over the fuel officially to the project authority in the Rooppur project on October 5.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Russian President Vladimir Putin are likely to join the function virtually.
