Badiul Alam Majumder's brother-in-law arrested

Police have arrested the main suspect on Wednesday in a case involving an attack on the convoy of former US ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat in August 2018.

Mohammad Ishtiaque Mahmud, the arrestee, is the brother-in-law of Shusashoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan) Secretary Badiul Alam Majumder.

He was arrested from the Mohammadpur area this evening, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mohammadpur Zone Mritunjoy De Sajal confirmed this information to The Daily Samakal.

Earlier in the day, a Dhaka court accepted the new charge sheet against nine defendants in the case.

Ishtiaque Mahmud and Naimul Hasan Rasel, president of the Mohammadpur Chhatra League unit, were also included in the charge sheet.

On August 4, 2018, while Bernicat was getting ready to leave Badiul Alam's residence after attending a courtesy meal in her honor, some 30 unidentified attackers attacked her convoy.

Badiul Alam filed a case with the Mohammadpur Police Station on August 10, 2018.
