Samakal among the bravest newspapers: Nur

The Daily Samakal is one of the bravest newspapers of this time, especially in the case of publishing news items that take courage, and reveal inside stories, said Nurul Haque Nur, leader of one faction of Gono Odhikar Parishad.

Nur, also a former vice-president (VP) of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU), made the remark at a function at Times Media Bhaban marking the 18th founding anniversary of The Daily Samakal in the capital on Saturday.

He hoped that the Daily Samakal would continue to be courageous. Aside from the newspaper, he also praised Samakal's multimedia content for making news more accessible to people.

"What I like especially about coming to Samakal's anniversary is that it becomes a social gathering for people with different views and opinions. In the case of politics, people don't get to meet each other due to being from different parties. Here, it is possible for them to meet. The same can be said for different professional organisations."

Comparing the anniversary function to a family event, Nur expressed his well wishes to the Daily Samakal.

The Daily Samakal Editor Alamgir Hossain, City Editor Shahed Chowdhury and Chief Reporter Lotan Ekram, among others, were present on the occasion.
