Dengue fever claims 12 more lives

The country is currently experiencing a record-breaking dengue fever outbreak; in the 24 hours leading up to this morning at 8:00am, at least 12 additional people have perished from the mosquito-borne disease.

The capital of the country recorded five of the twelve fatalities.

At least 2,475 dengue cases were admitted to the hospital during the course of the 24-hour period, according to data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Currently, dengue is the worst year for the disease since it was first identified in 2000, having claimed the lives of at least 1,181 people and infected about 2,42,089 more.

DGHS statistics showed that 8,149 dengue patients were being treated at different hospitals around the country.

A total of 2,32,759 patients have been released from hospitals around the country so far this year.
