Traffic almost normal in Dhaka city

A lesser number of buses and other public transport were seen plying the roads of Dhaka city on Tuesday morning, the first of a three-day countrywide blockade enforced by BNP and like-minded political parties.

CNG-run autorickshaws, rickshaws, and private cars were operating as usual on the roads of Khilkhet, Mohakhali, Tejgaon, Bijoy Sarani, Farmgate, Kalabagan, Karwan Bazar, and Mirpur areas. A lesser than usual number of buses were seen. The intensity of traffic congestion was also less in the morning. 

Gabtoli area lacked the usual crowd at around 8:30am. A handful of city buses were seen. However, highway buses did not leave from Gabtoli, Mazar Road, and Technical More. Inter-city bus counters were kept closed. The number of passengers was also less than usual.

Members of law enforcement agencies were seen monitoring various areas of the city.

Earlier on Monday, Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association and Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation had said buses and goods-laden vehicles will continue to ply across the country, including Dhaka city, during the three-day blockade.
