Police charge baton, tear shell to disperse RMG workers

Police charged batons and lobbed tear shells to disperse RMG workers holding a demonstration demanding a pay rise for the fourth consecutive day at Mirpur.

RMG workers took up position in front of the Purabi Hall at Mirpur-11 road. Police arrived and directed them to leave the area at around 11:30am on Thursday. In response, the workers hurled brickbats at the police. The two parties engaged in chase-counter chase after police lobbed tear gas shells. Eventually, the workers dispersed.

Mirpur Zone Police Deputy Commissioner Hasan Mohammad Muhtarin said the workers attacked Kafrul and Pallabi Police Station Officers in Charge and they were injured. After that, the police took action.

Meanwhile, police charged batons at the workers in the Mirpur-1 Chinese area at around noon. A chase and counter-chase ensued afterwards.
