Six get life term for killing boy in Lakshmipur

A Lakshmipur court has sentenced six people to life term imprisonment for killing a schoolboy namely Shimul in Sadar Upazila in 2014.

District and Sessions Judge Md Rahibul Islam on Thursday handed down the verdict to Elias Hossain, Masudur Rahman alias Kala Masud, Nur Mohammad Liton, Saddam, Anowar Hossain and Shariar Rashed.

The court also fined each of the convicts Tk 20,000. If they fail to pay the amount, they will serve one more year in jail.

According to the prosecution on April 21, 2014, Rabiul Islam Shimul, who used to live at his uncle's house in Chandraganj Dewpara village, was shot dead by the convicts.

Following the murder, Shimul's uncle filed a murder case with Lakshmipur Sadar Model Thana. On March 4, 2020, police pressed the charge sheet.

Testifying witnesses and evidence, the court gave the order in the presence of Elias Hossain. The rest five are on run. The court also acquitted one Taju Bhuiyan in the case, said Public Prosecutor advocate Jasim Uddin.
