Bangladesh's human rights situation to be reviewed in Geneva today

The human rights situation of Bangladesh will be reviewed under the universal periodic review (UPR) process of the UN Human Rights Council, on Monday in Geneva, Switzerland.

The government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to take part in the UPR process for the fourth consecutive time, an official release said.

A high-level Bangladesh delegation led by Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq is going to take part in the UPR meeting in Geneva.

Secretaries and senior officers of the Foreign Ministry, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Ministry of Social Welfare, and Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs are taking part in the meeting as part of the Bangladesh delegation.

The delegation will present before the gathering different steps of the Bangladesh government in developing the country’s human rights situation in the last four years and answer different questions in this regard.

The UPR is held every four years to review the human rights situation of UN member states. Bangladesh took part in the UPR in 2009 for the first time and after that in 2013 and 2018.
