Hasan attends Maldives President's swearing-in ceremony

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Saturday attended the oath-taking ceremony of Maldives' newly elected President and Vice-President held at its capital Male's Republic Square.

President Mohammed Muizzu and Vice President Hussain Mohammad Latheef took the oath yesterday evening. The information minister joined the function on behalf of Bangladesh, according to a press release.

South Asian neighbours who attended the ceremony included the Sri Lankan President, Vice President of Seychelles, special envoys and ministers of China, India, Pakistan, Turkey and the UAE, among others.

Peoples' National Congress Candidate Mohammed Muizzu won the elections held in two phases on September 9 and 30 and defeated Maldivians Democratic Party candidate former President Ibrahim Mohammad Solih.

Mohammed Muizzu won 54.03 per cent of the vote.

Cooperation between Bangladesh and Maldives continues in the fields of education, health, culture, youth and sports, aviation, information technology etc.
