235 platoons of BGB deployed countrywide

The government has deployed 235 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) across the country, including the capital, to maintain law and order and prevent violence.

BGB said 28 platoons were deployed in Dhaka and neighbouring districts, and the rest of the platoons elsewhere in the country.

Additionally, 460 RAB patrol teams were deployed, among them 160 teams are stationed in the capital.

On Wednesday, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Habibul Awal unveiled the 12th parliamentary election scheduled, to be held on January 7, 2024.

Several opposing political parties have rejected the poll schedule and called for hartals and blockades. In light of such a situation, the BGB platoons and RAB patrol teams were deployed.
