Bangladesh has improved its standing by five points, indicating exceptional performance in the battle against money laundering and terror financing, according to a global evaluation conducted by a Swiss-based group.
According to the Basel Institute on Governance's Basel Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Index-2023, Bangladesh is ranked 46th out of 152 countries, said a press release of Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU).
The previous year, Bangladesh was placed 41st on the list.
According to the rating, Haiti, Chad, Myanmar, and the Congo have the highest risk of money laundering and financing terrorism, while Iceland has the lowest risk.
In the index, the United States of America (USA) came in at position 119, while the United Kingdom came in at position 140.
The AML index, which measures a country's risk of money laundering and terrorism funding using five essential indicators, has been published by the Basel Institute of Governance since 2012.
These are measures against money laundering and terror financing prevention, bribery and corruption, financial transparency and standard, Public Transparency and Accountability and political rights and rules of law.
