EU specialist team due in Dhaka today

The European Union (EU) will not send any foreign observers for the 12th Jatiya Sangsad election slated for January 7. However, a four-member delegation of technical specialists is scheduled to reach Dhaka on Wednesday, a source at the foreign ministry said.

The team will start a two-month mission in Bangladesh on Sunday (December 3) through a meeting with the Election Commission (EC).

In September, the EU sent a letter to the EC, saying the EU will not send a full-fledged election observation mission during the upcoming national polls as it considers the environment in Bangladesh is not conducive to observing elections.
