34 kg gold seized at Sylhet airport

Customs intelligence officers seized more than 34kg of gold and apprehended four passengers in connection with the recovery of gold from a Bangladesh Biman aircraft at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet on Friday.

Based on information, the intelligence officers searched the Dubai-to-Dhaka flight (BG-248) and found gold hidden under a few seats and in the washroom.

Manager of Osmani International Airport Hafiz Ahmad reported to The Daily Samakal that six gold eggs weighing 1.591kg and 280 pieces of gold bars totalling 32.78kg were recovered. The gold is worth about Tk 35 crores on the market.

He said that the aircraft touched down at the Sylhet airport at 8:35 am.

Four of the flight's passengers had been detained in relation to the smuggling.
