Polls schedule legal: HC

The High Court has declared legal the 12th national election schedule. The court also rejected a writ petition filed by Advocate Dr Eunus Ali Akond challenging the legality of the schedule.

A High Court bench of Justice Mostafa Jaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah delivered the verdict after holding a hearing of the rule on Monday.

Akond filed the plea on December 29, making the Chief Election Commissioner, the Law and Justice Division Secretary, the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary as respondents.

Earlier on November 28, Advocate Dr Eunus Ali Akond sent legal notices to the concerned officials, calling for deferring the election. As the notice got unheard, he filed the writ, challenging the legality of the polls schedule announced on November 15.
