Verdict against Mirza Abbas deferred till Dec 28

A Dhaka court has deferred till December 28 for pronouncing judgment in a case filed against BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas for amassing illegal wealth and concealing the information.

Judge Manjurul Imam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 fixed the new date as the verdict was not prepared on Tuesday.

The court on November 5 showed Abbas arrested in the case and allowed a defence plea for allowing to produce defence witnesses afresh. Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 on October 31 cancelled Mirza Abbas's bail in the case and issued an arrest warrant against him.

The ACC on August 16, 2007, filed a case with Ramna Police Station for amassing an illegal wealth of Tk 7.54 crore and concealing information about the wealth of Tk 57.26 lakh.

ACC assistant director Md Khairul Huda after probing the case, filed a charge sheet on May 24, 2008, accusing Abbas of amassing illegal wealth of Tk 4.23 crore.

The court on June 16, 2008, framed charges against Mirza Abbas.
