Gas cutter used to remove rail tracks: DIG Nurul Islam

Miscreants used a gas cutter to remove a long stretch of Dhaka-Mymensingh rail track in the Bankharia village of Sripur Upazila in Gazipur, leading to the derailment of seven compartments of the Dhaka-bound Mohanganj Express in Gazipur in the early hours of Wednesday.

Dhaka Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Syed Nurul Islam confirmed the matter after visiting the spot at around 1:30pm. Gas Cutter and LPG cylinders were recovered from the vicinity, he added.

"The rail track was melted down using a gas cutter. More than 2000 degrees Celcius of heat is needed to melt these tracks. Some people are behind this incident who supplied the mechanism to the miscreants. We will find them," the DIG said.

The train derailment killed one person and injured several more.
