40 citizens demand dissolution of JS for fair, competitive polls

A total of forty eminent citizens have called on the government to dissolve the current parliament and hold the 12th national election within the subsequent 90 days. 

Concerned about a potentially one-sided election scheduled for January 7, they noted that opposition party leaders and activists have been systematically removed from the electoral landscape through arbitrary cases, arrests, controversial legal proceedings, and torture.

Among the signatories include a former adviser to the caretaker government and ex-president of Shujan, M Hafizuddin Khan; former Bangladesh Bank governor Saleh Uddin Ahmed; former election commissioner Brigadier General M Sakhawat Hussain; economist Dr Anu Muhammad; former cabinet secretary Ali Imam Majumder; PRI Executive Director and economist Dr Ahsan H Mansur; noted photographer Dr Shahidul Alam, The Daily Samakal Advisory Editor Abu Sayeed Khan, and eminent jurist Shahdeen Malik.
