1,896 aspirants to contest polls: EC

After the withdrawal of nomination papers across the country, the number of candidates for the upcoming 12th National Parliament elections stood at 1,896.

At a press briefing after the deadline for withdrawal of candidacy ended, Election Commission Secretary Jahangir Alam made the disclosure.

Jahangir Alam said at total of 2, 716 candidates submitted their nomination papers to take part in the January 7 national elections.

The BNP has boycotted the elections.
