Woman, child among 4 killed in train fire

Nine members of a family were returning to Dhaka from Netrakona by Mohanganj Express on Monday night. Five of them disembarked at the Airport Station at dawn on Tuesday. Right after, a fire broke out in the compartment. In the rush to leave the train, four people got left behind and charred to death.  Among them were Nadira Akhtar Poppy and her three-year-old son Yasin.

Poppy's brother-in-law Minhajur Rahman told the Daily Samakal that she couldn’t get off the train as she was holding Yasin in her arms. They were burned to death together.

He also said that his brother Habib and Poppy's elder son Mahin, 9, were able to leave the train. By the time they noticed the absence of Poppy and Yasin, the fire had spread and nothing could be done.
