RAB monitoring 4 Tejgaon train fire suspects

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is keeping a close watch over four people suspected to be involved in a train fire in Dhaka's Tejgaon which resulted in the death of at least four people.

Two of the four are miscreants who commit miscellaneous crimes for money. The profession of two others could not be confirmed, but it is possible that they are political activists, RAB-3 Commanding Officer Lt Col Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed told the Daily Samakal on Thursday.

The RAB official said, "Four people were identified based on detective data and investigation. We have their names, addresses, and photos. Already they have been put under watch. Now their involvement in the crime is being verified.

"We are trying to learn what their role was in the arson incident. Once we are certain about everything, they will be arrested."

Miscreants set fire to three compartments of the Mohonganj Express at the capital's Tejgaon Railway Station at dawn on December 19.

The train from Netrakona was headed for Dhaka. Passengers spotted fire after passing the Airport station. Then the train driver stopped at Tejgaon Station.

Four dead bodies were recovered from one compartment afterwards.
