HC to hear writ on ensuring presence of 3.25 crore voters

A hearing on a writ petition seeking directions to ensure the participation of 3 crore beneficiaries of the government in the 12th national elections will be held Wednesday. A High Court bench led by Justice Md Iqbal Kabir will hear the plea.

The writ was filed by Supreme Court lawyer Dr Bashir Ahmed on Monday.

According to Dr Bashir Ahmed, many countries have rules to ensure voters' participation in the polls.

"There are 2 crore 75 lakh voters who are direct beneficiaries of the government. Moreover, including Semi-State Agencies' staff, retired government employees and officials, there are 3.25 crore such voters. I have sought directions to bring these voters to polling centres," he said.
