Voter turnout around 40 percent: CEC

An estimated 40 percent of voters nationwide turned out to vote in the 12th national elections held on Sunday, said Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal.

He made the disclosure to the journalists in the Nirbachan Bhaban at 5:30pm.

However, the CEC told reporters that the Election Commission has not yet received all of the information from all voting centres across the country.

"After we have processed all the data, the percentages of votes cast may decrease or increase," he said.

"Till now, this is the dependable estimate of the turnout," he said.

The polls began at 8am and closed at 4pm.
