Barrister Sumon defeats aviation minister Mahbub Ali

In the 12th national elections for the Habiganj-4 seat, Barrister Sayedul Haque Sumon defeated incumbent State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali, a candidate for the Awami League.

According to locally reported election results, Mahbub Ali, a two-time Awami League MP, bagged 47,000 votes, while independent candidate Sumon received 1.98 lakh votes.

In 2021, Sumon—a practicing lawyer at the Supreme Court—ran the risk of losing his membership in the Jubo League central committee.

Because of his frequent and interesting appearances on social media, he became well-liked by netizens.
