Appellate Division orders case disposal within 6 months

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the disposal of a case filed for violating building construction rules which caused the death of the people when Rana Plaza collapsed in 2013.

An Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order on Monday. Meanwhile, the court also dismissed the bail plea filed by Sohel Rana, owner of Rana Plaza.

Earlier, Rana secured bail from the High Court on April 6, 2023. His bail was stayed on April 9.

On April 24, 2013, at least 1,136 people were killed and 2,500 were injured when the 10-story building (Rana Plaza) in Savar collapsed.

On April 29 of the same year, Sohel Rana was arrested from Benapole in Jashore while fleeing to India.
