Fakhrul, Khasru get ad-interim bail

A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted ad-interim bail to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and member of its standing committee Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury in a case filed with Paltan Police Station over their assault on law enforcement on October 28, last year.

On January 10, Fakhrul was previously released on bail in nine cases related to violence that transpired at the BNP's October 28 rally in Dhaka.

However, Fakhrul will remain incarcerated, according to Zaynal Abedin Meshbah, one of his lawyers, because he hasn't been given bail in another case for which he has been held since October 29.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque made the order after their lawyers submitted a bail request, citing Fakhrul's advanced age and the fact that both he and Khasru suffer from a number of ailments.

After hearing from both parties, the magistrate released them on condition of posting a Tk 10,000 bond with two guarantors, till submission of police report.
