Ekushey book fair to begin on Feb 1

The month-long ‘Amar Ekushey Grantha Mela 2024’ is going to begin on February 1, the traditional date of Ekushey book fair.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to open the fair at 3pm on February 1. 

Member Secretary of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair Committee Dr KM Muzahidul Islam said almost 60 percent of the preparatory work has already been completed on Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan premises.

He asserted that Bangla Academy is the sole entity involved in the fair, preventing criticism.

Along with cultural programs and seminars, events for children and teenagers include drawing, music, and recitation competitions.

The organizers declared that a digital lottery system will be used on January 23 to allocate stalls for publications that have already been enlisted as well as those that have not.

Aside from the 601 organisations that were previously named, some 70 more publications have applied in response to the notice. 

However, 21 new publications have already been selected, even if the remaining publications are still on the waiting list.
