Legal notice served to remove 'Sharifar Golpo' from textbook

A legal notice was sent to the education secretary and NCTB chairman to remove the story titled 'Sharifar Golpo' from the history and social science textbook of seventh grade.

Supreme Court lawyer Md Mahmudul Hasan sent the notice on Thursday. The notice says to remove the story from the book within a month and to withdraw the books from all educational institutions and shops. It also said to supply students with revised copies of the book.

The book recently came under scrutiny because of the aforementioned story. On Wednesday, a five-member committee was formed to review the story. The committee formed by the education ministry will be led by Islamic Arabic University Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Rashid.

Other members of the body include Islamic Foundation governor Mufti Maulana Kafil Uddin Sarker, NCTB member Professor Moshiuzzaman, director of Institute of Education and Research (IER) at Dhaka University Professor Dr Md Abdul Halim and principal of Dhaka Alia Madrasa Prof. Mohammad Abdur Rashid.
