TIB report on corruption politically motivated: Quader

A report by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on the global corruption perception is politically motivated, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said.

"The government does not care for such slander made to preserve the interests of some quarters or country," he said.

Obaidul Quader, also the General Secretary of the ruling Awami League (AL), made the remarks at a press briefing held at the AL president's Dhanmondi party office on Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier, the TIB presented a report on the Corruption Perception Index-2023 (CPI-2023) produced annually by the international secretariat of Transparency International (TI), the Berlin-based global coalition against corruption.

According to the report, Bangladesh has scored 24 out of 100, which is the 10th lowest score among 180 countries.

The index also shows that Bangladesh is among the 105 countries that have scored below the global average of 43, indicating a 'very serious corruption problem.'
