First phase of Biswa Ijtema begins

The 57th Biswa Ijtema began at Tongi, Gazipur, along the banks of the Turag River, after the Fazr prayer on Friday morning.

Maulana Ahmad Buttullah, a Pakistani, delivered the opening sermon, or Ambayan, to the Muslims.

At the same time, Tabligh Jamaat, the nation's second-largest Muslim gathering in the world, is having its translation into Bengali by its Maulana Nurur Rahman.

Despite several challenges, such as the cold and rain, thousands of Muslim devotees from all over the world have gathered at Ijtema grounds to take part in the Tabligh Jamaat-organized event.

The last prayer of the first phase will be offered on Sunday.

On February 9, the Ijtema's second phase will begin.
