Bishwa Ijtema death toll rises to 10

Three more devotees have died at the Bishwa Ijtema venue in Tongi of the district, taking the death toll to 10.

The three deceased were identified as Nousher Ali, 65, hailed from Sherpur district, Abdul Qader, 55, an inhabitant of Bhola district and Shadhin, 45, a resident of Netrakona district.

Mass Media Coordinator of the Ijtema Organizing Committee Habibulla Raihan on Saturday said, "They have died of old-age complications mostly from Friday noon to Saturday noon during the first phase of the Bishwa Ijtema."

Earlier, seven people died on the Ijtema ground. Of them, a policeman and two other devotees were crushed by a bus on the way to the Ijtema venue in Tongi.

The first phase of the 57th Bishwa Ijtema, one of the largest global Muslim gatherings, entered its second day in Tongi with continued spiritual activities, including the recitation of Almighty Allah's divine names and sermons.
