229 BGP men took refuge in Bangladesh: Hasan

A total of 229 soldiers of Myanmar’s paramilitary Border Guard Police (BGP) have taken refuge in Bangladesh till Tuesday morning, Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said.

It is possible that more BGP members will arrive in the country, the minister said at a press conference.

"It is unfortunate that shelling from Myanmar has entered Bangladesh. Dhaka has summoned the Myanmar envoy and strongly protested the incident," he said.

The minister added that the country is likely to take the BGP members back through the sea.
