64 more BGP members take refuge in Bangladesh

The conflict has seemingly lessened on the border between Bangladesh and Myanmar since Tuesday night. Meanwhile, 64 more soldiers of Myanmar’s paramilitary Border Guard Police (BGP) have taken refuge in Bangladesh.

The BGP men entered through the Hwaikyng border of Teknaf at around 1:30pm on Wednesdya. Till now, 328 men from different state agencies of the country have taken refuge in Bangladesh. There is a Battalion Captain of the BGP among them.

Due to the border unrest, ship movement from Teknaf to Saint Martins' Island has been suspended indefinitely.

According to the residents living along the border in Ghumdhum and Tumbru areas on Bandarban's Naikhongchhari, the rebel Arakan Army has completely taken over control of the border outpost, ousting the BGP. This has resulted in less conflict in the area.
