3 war criminals get life-term imprisonment in Sherpur

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 has sentenced life imprisonment to three war criminals from Sherpur's Nokla upazila for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.

The convicts are - SM Aminuzzaman Faruk, Md. Makleshur Rahman alias Tara and AKM Akram Hossain.

A three-member judicial panel led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam, chairman of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1, handed down the verdict on Monday.

On July 26, 2017, the investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal submitted a report, investigating allegations against four war criminals of Nokla upazila for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.

The tribunal, on August 30, 2018, ordered the trial to begin. Of the convicts, Emdadul Haq Khaja died during the trial.
