Physician Raihan suspended for shooting his student

Raihan Sharif, a teacher at Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College in Sirajganj, was suspended on Wednesday following his detention on Monday for shooting and hurting a student during a viva-voce. 

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare released a gazette notification regarding this. The principal of the medical college, Amirul Hasan Chowdhury, confirmed that Raihan, a teacher of community medicine, had been suspended.

He said, "We have received the copy of his [Raihan's] suspension order issued by the ministry today [Wednesday]." 

The police brought Raihan before the court on Tuesday with regards to the complaint that Md. Abdulla Al Amin, the victim's father, had submitted a murdered attempt case. 

In compliance with Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), Judge Billal Hossain of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court-1 in Sirajganj recorded Raihan's confession. Then he was sent into jail in the afternoon. 

On Monday afternoon, during a viva test, Raihan opened fire, injuring Arafat Amin Tamal, a third-year student. According to the police, Arafat is presently receiving treatment at the college hospital after being wounded in the right thigh.

Raihan passed secondary school certificate in 2007 and higher secondary certificate in 2009 from Sirajganj. He was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College in 2010-2011 academic year. From 2013, he got the post of organising secretary of the college unit of the Bangladesh Chhatra League. Since then he had a penchant for weapons.
