Govt fixes price of ordinary dates

The Ministry of Commerce has fixed the price of very ordinary or low quality dates at Tk 150 to Tk 165 per kg, and the widely used Zaidi dates at Tk 170 to Tk 180 per kg.

In the light of this fixed price, the retail price is fixed and the traders are instructed to sell.

State Minister for Commerce Hasanul Islam Titu said that the price of these dates has been decided considering the common people.

However, the ministry has not determined the price of expensive dates.

The government has also fixed the price of sugar.

The price of sugar per kg will not exceed Tk 140 while the maximum price of packaged sugar will be Tk 145.

Hasanul Islam Titu also said that the government is trying to ease the prices of daily commodities. 

There is no dearth of daily commodities in the market, he said, adding monitoring is being done to keep the market under control as per the instructions of the Prime Minister.

The process of importing 50,000 tonnes of onion from India is underway.
