5 hurt in Bijoy Exptress train derailment

Some nine coaches of the Jamalpur bound Bijoy Express train from Chittagong skidded off the line at Nangalkot in Cumilla on the Dhaka-Chittagong railway on Sunday.

A total of 18 compartments of the train separated from the engine.

Nangalkot Railway Station Master Jamal Hossain told The Daily Samakal that the accident took place in the area adjacent to Tejer Bazar of Dhalua Union of the upazila around 1.30 pm.

As the coaches are scattered on both tracks of the Dhaka-Chittagong railway, train movement is stopped on the Dhaka-Chittagong, Chittagong-Sylhet, Chittagong-Chandpur, Chittagong-Jamalpur roads, he added.

Five seriously injured passengers of the train were rescued and admitted to Nangalkot Upazila Health Complex.
