Countrywide 3-day heat alert issued

The heat wave which is affecting the country will continue till Monday morning, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). In this situation, the BMD has issued a 72-hour heat alert across the country. 

"The prevailing heat wave over the country may continue and increase further during the next 72 hours commencing today (19th April 2024). Due to increasing moisture incursion, the discomfort may increase," reads a BMD alert message issued Friday.

For the third day in a row, the country's maximum temperature was recorded at 41.3 degrees Celsius at Chuadanga on Friday. 

According to the met office, a severe heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Bagerhat, Jashore, Chuadanga, and Kushtia. A mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions and the districts of Dinajpur, Rangamati, Chandpur, Khulna, Satkhira, Barishal, and Patuakhali and it may continue.

Meanwhile, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions with hail at isolated places.

The weather may remain mainly dry with temporarily partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.

Day temperature may rise slightly, while night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
