Heat alert issued for 72-hours again

A severe heat wave is sweeping over the capital as well as other places in the country. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued an alert that the heat wave will continue for another 72 hours. This is the fourth time this year that a heat alert has been issued by the met office. 

"The prevailing heat wave over the country may continue during the next 72 hours commencing today (28 April 2024). Due to the increase of moisture incursion, the discomfort may increase," reads the alert message for the heat wave issued Sunday. 

According to the regular weather forecast bulletin issued by the BMD, a very severe heat wave is sweeping over the district of Chuadanga. A severe heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Jashore and Kushtia. A mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Dhaka and Barishal divisions as well as the other parts of Rajshahi and Khulna and the districts of Dinajpur, Rangamati, Chandpur, Feni and Bandarban. 

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country, the bulletin added. 

Rain and thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty/squally wind are likely to occur at one or two places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with hails at isolated places. The weather may remain mainly dry with temporarily partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country. 

The country's maximum temperature on Saturday was recorded 42.7 degrees Celsius at Chuadanga and the minimum temperature on Sunday was 22.8 degrees Celsius at Sylhet.

The only rainfall in the last 24 hours till 6 am Sunday was recorded at 16mm at Sylhet.

The sun sets at 6:26 pm on Sunday and rises at 5:26 am on Monday in the capital.
